RENO, Nev. (AP) — An official says fire crews are trying to contain a nearly 8-square-mile wildfire from reaching a state highway in the remote and scenic Poodle Mountain Wilderness Study Area in northwest Nevada.
U.S. Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Terah Malsam said Monday that about 300 firefighters are working in rugged mountain canyons, aided by air tankers and helicopters.
No injuries are reported and no structures are threatened. Containment was estimated late Sunday at less than 10 percent.

The blaze dubbed the Poodle Fire was sparked Saturday by lightning in the area about 20 miles northwest of Gerlach.
Malsam says it's burning pinion-juniper, mahogany and grasses in the area west of Squaw Creek Reservoir and State Route 447.
