Washington County Considers Sales Tax Increase

Washington County, Utah is weighing whether or not to put a sales tax increase on the fall ballot.

The St. George Spectrum reports an increase in sales tax benefitting roadworks and transportation projects could reduce traffic congestion by half.

That's according to a report from the Dixie Metropolitan Planning Committee.

The Washington County Commission will discuss the proposal at its meeting tomorrow.

The tax would put a quarter of a cent on every dollar spent on things that aren't food, and all of that revenue would go to transportation.

That city's council, along with those of Hurricane and Ivins – among others – has spoken out in favor of the proposal.
