Unless Trump's Tone Changes, Utah's Lt. Gov. Won't Back Him

Republican Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox says he won't support Donald Trump unless the Republican nominee dramatically changes his tone.

Cox said in an interview with The Salt Lake Tribune that he feels equally strong about opposing Democrat Hillary Clinton. He said he's not sure how he'll vote in November, but said he's met with candidate Evan McMullin and has researched Libertarian Gary Johnson.

Cox was undecided about Trump during the Republican National Convention earlier this summer, but said the nominee's rhetoric has become worse since then and pushed him further away.

The lieutenant governor is diverging from Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, who said a few days ago that he would vote for Trump. Herbert said that some voters find the billionaire businessman's candor refreshing.
