Second Riviera Tower To Come Down Aug. 16

There's another implosion planned for the Riviera Hotel and Casino.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority announced Tuesday that the second tower at the iconic casino property on the northern end of the Strip will go down at 2 a.m. on Aug. 16.

The tourism board in June demolished the first tower with a fireworks display and a series of explosions.

The agency is spending $42 million to level the 13-building property, which closed in May 2015 after 60 years in business.

It has plans to use the site to expand its Las Vegas Convention Center.

The 2,075-room property that spans 26 acres was purchased last year for $182.5 million, plus $8.5 million in related transaction costs.
