Search Continues For Hiker Missing In Elko County

An official says searchers on horseback and dogs are joining aircraft in a search for a 20-year-old hiker reported missing last week in the rugged Ruby Mountains of northeast Nevada.

Elko County Undersheriff Ron Supp tells the Elko Daily Free Press that Jacob Beetler of Spring Creek was reported missing Thursday after going hiking Wednesday.

Supp says Beetler may have headed for Ruby Dome, which stands almost 11,400 feet and is the highest point in the scenic mountains east of Elko.

Supp says searchers have also been using helicopters and airplanes in the daily effort.

Beetler is described as 5-foot-10, with light brown hair and hazel eyes. He was reported to have been wearing camouflage-colored pants and a green sweatshirt.
