Residents Free To Go Home As Wildfire Near Reno Calms Down

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Residents who voluntarily evacuated because of a brush fire burning in western Nevada are returning home.

Fire officials say the blaze burning about 10 miles northwest of Reno had calmed down Sunday morning because of lighter wind.

Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Chief Charlie Moore says the fire started Saturday night and flared up, threatening 50 homes in the Cold Springs area.

So far, no structures have been damaged.

Meanwhile, hand crews are continuing to work on containment and putting out any hot spots.

The wildfire has scorched about 2 ½ square miles of grass and sagebrush, most of it on federal land.

It is 20 percent contained.

Moore says the cause has not been determined and the Bureau of Land Management will be in charge of that.
