Fire Near Pony Express Trail May Take Several Days To Be Contained

A federal official says crews think it'll take several days to contain a wildfire that has grown to almost 4.7 square miles in remote northeast Nevada rangeland near a stretch of the historic Pony Express trail.

U.S. Bureau of Land Management spokesman Chris Hanefeld said Tuesday that the fire about 5 miles south of the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge isn't threatening structures.

No injuries have been reported.

More than 50 firefighters and several air tankers were battling the fire in pinion-juniper, sage and grass.

It was discovered Monday after a lightning strike.

Hanefeld says it could be contained this weekend.
