Wildfire Near Eureka Contained

A federal official says a nearly 3-square mile wildfire in central Nevada rangeland has been contained.

Bureau of Land Management spokesman Chris Hanefeld in Ely says the fire about 15 miles (24 kilometers) southeast of Eureka was declared contained Monday.

No injuries were reported and Hanefeld says no private property was damaged. The fire burned about 1,912 acres (774 hectares) of pinyon-juniper, brush and grass in priority sage grouse habitat.

It was first spotted shortly after noon on Thursday, and the cause hasn't been determined.

Hanefeld says almost 75 firefighters fought flames in Eureka and White Pine counties.
