The Nye County Commission will hold a hearing today on whether or not to approve a license application for a medical marijuana cultivation facility.
The Pahrump Valley Times reports people living near the facility – which received a temporary approval and zoning change last year – are not keen on the idea of having a cultivation center near them.
A petition with more than 500 signatories has been presented to commission, expressing a wish to deny a permanent zoning change for the center.
However, a Nye County commissioner said that when the proposal was first presented last year, only 30 people showed up to the relevant meeting.
He's backing the proposal, saying it'll create jobs for the region.
According to Nye County regulations, the county has to approve any kind of medical marijuana business' operation before it can begin work or before it can open.
