2 Nevadans From Immigrant Families Set To Speak At DNC

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Two Nevadans whose family members live in fear of deportation will take the stage at the Democratic National Convention next week.

Immigration activist Astrid Silva is set to speak at the Philadelphia convention on its opening day on Monday. She'll be joined by Karla Ortiz, who participated in a campaign event Hillary Clinton held earlier this year in Las Vegas.

Silva was brought to the U.S. illegally as a child but is protected from deportation through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Ortiz is an American citizen, but her parents are in the country illegally. Ortiz told Clinton that she fears they'll be deported, and Clinton responded that she'd worry about immigration policy so Ortiz didn't have to.

Footage of the interaction became part of a campaign ad.
