Reno Shelter Contract Renewed For 3 Years; Funding Increased

The Reno City Council has renewed Volunteers of America of Northern Nevada's contract to operate the homeless shelter for the next three years.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the organization will also receive increased funding from the three jurisdictions of Washoe County, Sparks and Reno.

The change from $1.8 million to a little more than $3 million per fiscal year is the first increase in eight years. It takes effect July 1. The VOA beat one other applicant for the shelter contract.
