Judge Denies Request To Find DSU President In Contempt

A judge has denied a motion to jail Dixie State University's president for contempt over records requested by a former professor facing an assault charge.

The Spectrum of St. George reports that Washington County Justice Court Judge Karlin Myers ruled Friday against finding President Richard "Biff" Williams in contempt of court.

The arguments stem from the criminal case against Varlo Davenport, a tenured theater professor who is accused of grabbing a female student's hair and pulling her head back during acting class.

The university later fired him.

Davenport has claimed recordings and emails show the university influenced the student's testimony by offering a grade boost.

The judge also ordered Dixie State to search its records for any potential evidence and make them available to Davenport's attorney.
