Former NV BLM Chief Stood To Gain From Land Deal

Federal investigators found a former Bureau of Land Management chief in Nevada stood to gain from a 2011 land deal involving the city of Henderson and a Texas developer who promised a stadium and sports arena complex outside Las Vegas.

However, Interior Department inspectors general say in a Tuesday report that former BLM chief Bob Abbey and business associate and former bureau official Mike Ford never received the more than $500 million through their consulting firm.

The deal was scuttled after developer Christopher Milam bought the 480-acres in 2012 — amid accusations by Henderson officials that Milam really wanted to sell the land to homebuilders.

The probe found no evidence Milam planned to 'flip" the property, and says the U.S. attorney in Nevada declined to prosecute based on the findings.
