Democrats Bullish In Efforts To Regain Power In Legislature

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Democrats say they're feeling more optimistic in their efforts to regain majorities in the Nevada Legislature now that the primaries are behind them.

The party wants to bounce back from big losses in the 2014 election. Democrats lacked power when they were outnumbered 17 to 25 in the Assembly and 10 to 11 in the Senate last session.

Democratic Assembly Leader Irene Bustamante Adams says Democratic campaigns up and down the ticket are better coordinating their efforts. She pointed to primary losses among some moderate GOP incumbents as evidence that divisions within the Republican Party could slow them down.

Republican Assembly Majority Leader Paul Anderson acknowledged Republicans are the underdogs and need to adjust their plans after primary outcomes, but said they're being more strategic than in the past.
