Committee Meets To Discuss Proposed Football Stadium

A committee is working out financial details for a proposed football stadium that could help Las Vegas welcome more professional sports.

The Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure meets Thursday to fine-tune a public-private financing plan for a $1.4 billion stadium that proponents hope will house the Raiders.

Moving the Raiders from Oakland would require support from other NFL team owners, who may still be skeptical of putting pro sports in the gambling mecca of Nevada.

But the National Hockey League's announcement Wednesday that it would put a team in Las Vegas' privately funded T-Mobile arena indicates the casino stigma may be fading.

The Las Vegas Sands wants to finance stadium construction partly with money from hotel room taxes and by redirecting sales and payroll tax revenue at the stadium.
