Biologists Concerned For Condor Chick At Zion National Park

Zion National Park in Utah is home to a rare California condor hatchling. Officials are worried it might not survive after one of its parents died.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports biologists from The Peregrine Fund observed odd behavior last week from the chick’s father, known as Condor 337. They later discovered he had elevated levels of lead in his bloodstream. Condor 337 was taken to Arizona for treatment, but died the next day.

Biologists plan to autopsy the body and are closely watching the chick and its mother.
