LAS VEGAS (AP) — Federal officials have indicted a Clark County School District police officer on charges that he assaulted a student and a staff member at a school and tried to cover it up.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday that a federal grand jury handed down a five-count indictment against 45-year-old Officer James Lescinsky.
Authorities say the incident happened last May at Jeffrey Behavior School, which enrolls students who have been booted from other schools.
Lescinsky is accused of hitting a female staff member and a female student with his baton, and slamming the student into the floor.
He allegedly lied by saying the student and staff member were wrestling, and falsified police reports.
District officials said Lescinsky has been taken off his district and police duties pending an investigation.
