SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A group pushing to legalize medical marijuana in Utah has abandoned its effort to put the issue on the November ballot.
The group, called Truce, said it would have been difficult to collect the nearly 102,000 signatures to get the initiative on this year’s ballot. For now, Truce is shifting focus back to trying to convince the state legislature to change the laws during the next session.
They’re also starting to collect signatures for a 2017 ballot initiative if their proposal fails during the next legislative session. Two competing medical marijuana bills died amid regulatory and budgetary concerns at the legislature this year.
