Nearly 3 Feet Of Snow In Rubies, Reno Set Record Monday

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The late March storm that brought record-breaking amounts of snow to parts of western Nevada this week dumped nearly 3 feet of snow on the top of the Ruby Mountains in Elko County by the time it made its way off to the east.

The National Weather Service says 35 inches was reported early Wednesday at the Lamoille SNOTEL station in the mountains south of Elko.

On Monday, up to 13 inches of snow fell in the Sparks area. The 6.8 inches at Reno-Tahoe International Airport broke an 118-year-old record for that date and tied for the third largest in terms of a spring storm overall.

That record — measured from March 15 through May — is 9 inches set in May 1962. Seven inches fell in May 1964 and 6.8 inches also was recorded in March 1945.
