McCarran Parking Fines To Increase

Parking tickets at McCarran International Airport are getting more expensive.

The Clark County Commission voted Tuesday to hike the fees at airports in its jurisdiction in an effort to deter motorists from breaking the rules. Maximum penalties that used to be $155 can now be as high as $200 or $300, and can grow if they're not paid within 30 days.

The Las Vegas Sun reports commissioners also added penalties for repeat offenders that can be as much as $1,800 if a driver gets multiple tickets within a 12-month period.

The fee hikes apply to Uber and Lyft drivers that are now allowed to do airport pickups, but also to other vehicles.

Officials said the fines hadn't been raised since 2002 and didn't appear to be deterring misbehavior.
