Former AP Reno Correspondent Tom Gardner Dies At 73

YERINGTON, Nev. (AP) — Former Associated Press Reno correspondent Tom Gardner has died in Yerington after a long illness. He was 73.

Gardner's former wife Sheila Gardner said he died Friday in a long-term care facility, where he'd lived for about six months after being treated for cancer. He's survived by his three children.

Gardner was born in East Liverpool, Ohio. He started his four-decade career with the wire service in Columbus, Ohio, where he worked as the broadcast editor. He transferred to Reno in the late 1970s and served as a correspondent until he retired in 2007.
