LAS VEGAS (AP) — An energy task force called up by the governor is meeting to discuss hot-button issues including rooftop solar rates and the Clean Power Plan.
The New Energy Industry Task Force is set to convene Tuesday and will work on developing broad policy goals before the 2017 legislative session.
The task force is one way Gov. Brian Sandoval is responding to uproar over new rates set last year for net metering, the process of people selling excess energy from their solar panels back to the utility.
Rooftop solar companies say the decision prompted them to lay off hundreds of people. Solar customers and former solar employees have crowded Public Utilities Commission meetings to plead with the commission to reverse course.
PUC members implement policy, but they don't create it.
