Cliven Bundy Loses Bid For Release In Nevada

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy has lost his bid for release from jail ahead of trial on federal charges stemming from an armed standoff against government agents two years ago.

A federal magistrate judge in Las Vegas pointed Thursday to grand jury findings that Bundy incited and led a gunpoint standoff to stop federal agents from rounding up cattle near his ranch in April 2014.

Bundy and four of his adult sons are among 19 people now facing federal charges.

The judge noted that Bundy ignored federal court orders for many years ahead of that confrontation and said he wasn't convinced Bundy would comply if he were freed.

Bundy denies U.S. government authority and declined last week to enter a plea in a demonstration that federal law doesn't apply to his case.
