State Legislatures See Flurry Of Daily Fantasy Sports Bills

BOSTON (AP) — The daily fantasy sports debate has spilled over to state capitols nationwide, with nearly 30 legislatures considering proposals this year.

At least half the bills represent variations of an industry-backed proposal, according to an Associated Press review.

Many would require players be at least 18 years old, though bills in California and Maryland propose a minimum age of 21. Most states are considering imposing licensing and registration fees.

Proposals in California and New York would additionally tax contest revenues. Jeremy Kudon, an industry lobbyist, says he's optimistic up to eight states will pass legislation favorable to the industry.
