Democrats Back Former Lawmaker's Bid To Return To Assembly

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Assembly Democrats are supporting a former lawmaker's bid to retake a seat she used to hold in the Henderson area.

The Assembly Democratic Caucus announced Thursday that they were endorsing Henderson attorney Lesley Cohen for Assembly District 29. The seat is held by freshman Republican Assemblyman Stephen Silberkraus.

Clark County commissioners appointed Cohen to the post in 2012 after the abrupt resignation of Assemblywoman April Mastroluca. Cohen lost a bid to keep the seat during the 2014 election.

Caucus officials say the district is a top target for them this year in their bid to regain the Assembly majority. It leans slightly Democratic by registration.

Cohen graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno and is a family law attorney.
