Couple Sues SolarCity, Alleging Company Misled About Solar Rates

A northern Nevada couple is accusing rooftop solar panel company SolarCity of hiding the fact that energy rates could go up in an effort to maximize its profits.

The Las Vegas Sun reports the suit was filed Jan. 29 and alleges SolarCity misled people about a rate change lawmakers ordered in the spring. SolarCity says regulators and NV Energy are to blame for the rates.

The lawsuit was first reported by political journalist Jon Ralston and is the latest reaction to Nevada regulators' December decision to raise rates for net metering customers. Public Utilities Commission members say the rates phase out a subsidy that traditional energy customers are paying to support solar customers.
