Bomb Threat At Elko Courthouse Was False Alarm

Another bomb threat at the Elko County courthouse turned out to be fake, but local authorities say they're pleased with law officers' quick response under a new cooperative agreement adopted after a series of similar threats last year.

Monday's threat was the first Elko police and county sheriff's deputies responded to using the new protocols since four threats were made during a two-week period last summer.

Sheriff's Police Lt. Kevin McKinney says all courthouse complex buildings were evacuated shortly after a male voice alluded to a bomb in a call to the county clerk's office at 1:26 p.m. Monday.

By 2:10 p.m., a sweep of the area had determined there was no danger.

McKinney told the Elko Daily Free Press he was especially pleased with the high-level of cooperation.
