Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against BLM Dismissed

A wrongful death lawsuit has been dismissed against the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and two federal agents who shot and killed a 20-year-old man on a state highway outside Las Vegas nearly two years ago.

Attorney Jacob Hafter said Friday he withdrew from the case in November, and U.S. District Court records show the complaint filed by the dead man's mother, Tracy Meadows, was closed on Monday.

A BLM spokesman didn't immediately comment.

The Feb. 14, 2014, slaying of D'Andre Berghardt Jr. near Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area drew wide attention after witness video was posted online.

It showed Berghardt trying to get into vehicles in traffic and then climbing into an idling Nevada Highway Patrol vehicle before he was shot.

Meadows filed suit in December 2014.
