NV Supreme Court Orders Re-Trial In Hell's Angels Murder Case

The Nevada Supreme Court has ordered a new trial for a man convicted of assassinating a Hells Angel leader in a 2011 shootout between rival motorcycle clubs at a Sparks casino.

The high court issued a ruling Thursday overturning the conviction of 57-year-old Ernesto Gonzalez, who was formerly president of the Vagos chapter in Nicaragua.

Gonzalez was convicted of murder and other charges in 2013 in the death of 51-year-old Jethro Pettigrew, who was known as the "godfather" of the Hells Angels in San Jose, Calif.

Supreme court justices said Gonzalez didn't get a fair trial because a lower court made several errors, such as declining to answer a jury question about a conspiracy charge.

Gonzalez is serving his decades-long sentence in High Desert State Prison outside of Las Vegas.
