Navajo Nation Meeting To Hear Benefits Of Indian Gaming

The Navajo Nation Council will hear about the benefits of Indian gaming among other issues when it meets in its first regular session this week.

National Indian Gaming Association chairman Ernie Stevens Jr. will give remarks Monday morning during the start of the council's winter session in Window Rock, Arizona.

Stevens, an enrolled member of the Oneida Nation in Wisconsin, is on his seventh two-year term as chairman.

The Daily Times in Farmington (N.M.) reports Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye will give the state of the nation address.

The agenda also includes a report on activities from Speaker LoRenzo Bates, an update from the Bureau of Indian Affairs' Navajo Region, the Indian Health Service and other offices.
