LV Visitation Record Officially Broken

Visit Las Vegas in 2015? Count yourself among the more than 42 million people traveling to the casino corridor last year.

It's a number that breaks 2014's record visitation for the destination, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

The group announced shortly before New Year's that it expected to break the 2014 record of 41.1 million people.

How do they know? The public agency's lead researcher isn't saying because the method is proprietary and the information competitive. But senior research manager Scott Russell says the 40-year-old formula takes into account trends, casino-hotel occupancy, travel habits and airline traffic among other factors.

Russell says the estimates aren't any different than those other destinations rely on from third-parties — except his group polls casino-hotels directly.
