FLDS Trial: Former Security Head Testifies Against Church

The former head of security for a polygamous church testified at a federal trial against two towns in Arizona and Utah about how he went from being a fierce defender of his church to turning against it.

Willie Jessop says Tuesday that he believed in the innocence of church leader Warren Jeffs and went into debt to help fund his defense against charges that he arranged marriages of underage girls to men.

But Jessop says he turned against the church after authorities in Texas gave him an audio recording of Jeffs raping a 12-year-old girl.

Jessop is one of the federal government's star witnesses in its discrimination lawsuit against Colorado City, Arizona, and Hildale, Utah.

The towns deny allegations that the communities function as an arm of the church.
