LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada's top schools chief says he expects test scores to be tied to teacher evaluations as planned next year, despite a recent overhaul of the No Child Left Behind education law that no longer requires states to do so.
Any change to drop or substantially change that part of Nevada's educator performance evaluation system would require legislative action in the next session in 2017.
Nevada has been setting up a new evaluation system since 2011 in accordance with a federal mandate that as of this month has been eliminated.
But without a state legislative session anytime soon, student test scores will begin phasing into a teacher's performance review next year.
The Nevada State Education Association is pushing for Nevada to dilute the weight of the test scores.
