CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A national organization has ranked Nevada best in the nation for policies on charter school oversight.
A report issued by the National Association of Charter School Authorizers gave the state a perfect score on its 2015 analysis, tying it with Indiana.
The scores were based on how well states implemented best practices for ensuring charter schools and their sponsor organizations are held accountable.
The group said laws passed in 2013 and 2015 helped boost Nevada's score. The report notes that the legislation was partially a response to Nevada charter schools' weak performance in the past.
Nevada State Public Charter Authority chief Patrick Gavin said Tuesday that the stronger policies are a good foundation, but education officials will need to ensure they're properly implemented to make a difference for students.
