Elko County Approves Sales Tax Increase

We have an update to a story we brought to you earlier this week.

Elko County Commissioners voted to raise sales taxes by a quarter of one percent this week, according to the Elko Daily Free Press.

The commission voted four to one to adopt the increase, which will fund road and fire infrastructure.

Of the tax revenue raised, $1.5 million is slated to go to the county fire district and $2 million will go to roads.

Seventy-five percent of the money for roads will improve county roads, while the remaining $500,000 will go to cities.
