Las Vegas Man Who Ran Illegal Bitcoin Poker Site To Be Sentenced

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A man who pleaded guilty to operating an illegal online poker site that accepted the digital currency bitcoin is due for sentencing in a case that Nevada officials called a first-of-its kind.

Bryan Micon is expected to pay a $25,000 fine and surrender cash and items seized by authorities, but avoid jail time under a plea deal entered in July.

He could've faced up to 10 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Nevada gambling regulators and state Attorney General Adam Laxalt announced the prosecution in April and identified Micon as the operator of an unlicensed online poker website using the Internet currency bitcoin.

Authorities said Micon operated the site "Seals with Clubs" for almost a year before agents served a search warrant in February at his Las Vegas home.
