Elko Officials Angry At FAA Over Airport Closure

Though normal service has resumed at the Elko Regional Airport, city officials are still upset with the Federal Aviation Administration's order to close one of their runways due to missing markings.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports that the airport was forced to close Runway 5-32 last week due to missing markings, but city officials say the non-standard markings had been cleared through the FAA.

The runway closure canceled flights for four days so markings could be restored.

City Manager Curtis Calder said in an email sent to the FAA that the inspector who reported the problem had issued a non-standard marking notice to airman when the runway reopened in September. He said the inspector did not give any warning that the markings were an issue during his inspection.
