Nevada Settles With San Francisco Over Patient Dumping

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval says the state has reached a settlement with San Francisco over allegations that Nevada psychiatric patients were wrongly bused to California.

Sandoval said Monday that the $400,000 settlement includes attorney's fees for San Francisco. It still needs to be approved by the Nevada Board of Examiners and a similar board in San Francisco.

Officials from the San Francisco city attorney's office couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

San Francisco sued Nevada in 2013 amid reports that patients discharged from Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital in Las Vegas were bused to California and directed to seek further care there.

Sandoval said he expects Nevada and San Francisco to agree on new procedures for transferring psychiatric patients.

Nevada already approved spending $1.9 million to fight the lawsuit through this summer.
