Las Vegas Sees 3.6 Million People In August, Up 1.6 Percent

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority says 3.6 million people traveled to the destination in August representing growth of 1.6 percent compared to a year ago.

The agency that markets the city to travelers said the average daily room rate at hotels dropped 6.4 percent on the Las Vegas Strip to $112.65 but rose 6.8 percent to $57.57 in downtown Las Vegas.

Convention-goers accounted for much of the growth with a 26 percent boost in August to 532,891 people attending 1,308 meetings. The ASD consumer goods trade show grew this year and the Las Vegas Market show that happened in July last year took place in August instead. That show attracts 50,000 attendees.
