The Nevada Treasurer's Office is announcing plans to start disbursing money through Education Savings Accounts two months earlier than scheduled.
Treasurer Dan Schwartz said Tuesday that accounts will start receiving payments from the state in February. The original plan was to fund accounts in April.
The change is pending lawmaker approval on Wednesday.
Schwartz also proposed exempting kindergartners and children of active-duty military personnel from the requirement of attending public school for 100 days before becoming eligible. Those changes are expected to be finalized in November.
Nevada lawmakers passed a bill on party lines this spring creating the accounts, which allow parents to claim most of their child's per-pupil state education funding and use it toward private school or other qualified expenses.
Two pending lawsuits seek to halt the program.
