Demographers Exploring Impact Of Tesla On Northern Nevada

Officials in Carson City are looking at what to do with the workers expected to arrive for the Tesla Motors/Panasonic Energy combination.

The Nevada Appeal reports that Nevada's state demographer said Wednesday that Carson City could see more than 300 spinoff jobs after 2016-17. Those additional workers could impact housing, job growth and even commutes.

Demographer Jeff Hardcastle says housing in the region still has some slack, though not necessarily in the price ranges that are affordable to all the expected incoming workers.

He says the impact will not be limited to Carson City, especially as the region is really a five-county commuting area, with workers from Douglas County commuting to Carson City, and workers in Carson City going to Reno and other places.
