Gov. Sandoval Wants Nevada Voucher Lawsuit Resolved

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Gov. Brian Sandoval is pushing for court proceedings in a lawsuit over a Nevada education funding program to take place as soon as possible.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that Sandoval is calling on Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt to expedite the lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union.

In a statement issued Friday, Sandoval says students and parents cannot move forward until these legal battles are resolved.

Nevada lawmakers established the program this spring so parents can even use per-pupil education funds for private school or tutoring.

The ACLU filed the suit last week, arguing the program will use taxpayer money for religious indoctrination at private schools that discriminate in admissions and employment.

The group wants a court to stop state officials from implementing it.
