Record Rainfall In Las Vegas Yesterday

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The National Weather Service says Las Vegas received more than half an inch of rain during an intense thunderstorm that swept through the area barely breaking a one-day record set in 1970.

The agency said 0.57 of an inch worth of rain was recorded at McCarran International Airport Thursday afternoon compared to 0.53 of an inch 45 years ago.

The weather service says it was the wettest day on record for the area so far this year.

Meteorologist Chad Shafer says the storm was highly localized with some areas staying dry through much of it including the northern and western Las Vegas valley.

Shafer says there could be more storms today beginning early afternoon with similar threats of gusty winds, frequent lightening and flooding in some areas.
