CARSON CITY (AP) — Nevada is getting nearly $300,000 in federal money to help low-income students take Advanced Placement tests.
The U.S. Department of Education announced Wednesday that Nevada was one of 38 states to receive a share of the $28 million in program funds.
AP tests are usually taken after a corresponding AP class, and students can earn college credit if they pass the exam. Each test costs $91, and students sometimes take multiple exams.

The grant is expected to cover all but $12 of the test. States can opt to have students pay a portion of the fee.
Federal officials say the grants are a smart investment that will encourage more students to take the test and make progress toward finishing a college degree.
