Marilyn Kirkpatrick Appointed To Clark County Commission

CARSON CITY (AP) — Gov. Brian Sandoval has appointed Democratic Nevada Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick to replace former Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins.

The Republican governor announced Tuesday that Kirkpatrick would finish out Collins' term, which ends Jan. 1, 2017.

The outspoken Collins suddenly resigned his post last week, saying he was leaving because of family matters over the next few months that would affect his ability to serve his constituents.

Sandoval praised Kirkpatrick for her hard work and in-depth policy expertise. She has served in the Assembly since 2004 and held the top-ranking position of speaker in 2013 when Democrats were in the majority.

She was minority leader in the 2015 session, which was her last due to term limits.

Sandoval wanted a replacement in place before the commission's next meeting on Sept. 1.
