Heck Plans To Extend 'Aggressive' Hispanic Outreach Effort

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Republican Rep. Joe Heck says his team has a great relationship with the Latino community in his district and plans to replicate their "aggressive" outreach efforts on a statewide scale for his Senate campaign.

Heck made the comments Wednesday during a campaign stop at Red's Old 395 Grill in Carson City. He's on a multi-day tour to introduce himself to northern Nevadans.

Heck is running against Democratic former Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto, who could become the first Latina elected to the Senate. A sizeable bloc of Hispanic voters could help decide the outcome of the competitive race.

Past immigration votes could dog him. Heck voted to defund the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program in 2013, but defied his party in 2014 by voting to keep it running.
