GOP Assemblyman Pat Hickey Says He Won't Run Again

CARSON CITY (AP) — Republican Nevada Assemblyman Pat Hickey says he won't be running for re-election in 2016.

Hickey announced Tuesday that he would carry out his legislative duties in the interim, but won't seek a fifth term. He represents Assembly District 25 in Washoe County.

Hickey served one term in the Assembly in the late 1990s before he was re-elected in 2010. He served as the highest-ranking Republican in the 2013 session, but was not in leadership in the 2015 session.

He was an independent voice, blogging frequently during the legislative session to explain his moderate positions and call out fellow members of his "raucous and unruly" Republican caucus.

Hickey said he was proud to support Gov. Brian Sandoval's budget and a slate of school reforms, but said legislative stints should be short.
