Federal Funding Problems Likely To Delay Reno Veterans Home

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A much-heralded plan to complete a Northern Nevada Veterans Home as early as the end of next year could be postponed indefinitely amid new uncertainties about federal funding.

Gov. Brian Sandoval held a signing ceremony in June to allocate $14 million in state funds to the planned 96-bed veterans' nursing home in Reno. State officials said they expected the federal government to kick in a $34 million match to complete the project as early as late 2016.

But Gus Nunez of the Nevada Public Works Division said Wednesday that Nevada learned there was no more leftover federal money for the project in current fiscal year, and funding in the fiscal year that starts in October is "iffy."

Sandoval wrote letters this week seeking help from Nevada's congressional delegation.
