LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Las Vegas area is being warned of smoke from a California wildfire that could affect air quality.
The Clark County Department of Air Quality extended an advisory through Friday, warning that the fire could elevate smoke and ozone levels in the Las Vegas area.
The advisory, first issued Wednesday, indicates that air pollution is not at an unhealthy level yet.
But the county urges children, the elderly and people with respiratory or heart diseases to stay indoors to avoid possible exposure.
In California, there are 16 active wildfires, including a blaze burning for nearly three weeks on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada. More than 2,500 campers, hikers, employees and residents have been evacuated this week in a recreation area outside Kings Canyon National Park.
