CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Conservative activists have filed a petition seeking to repeal the entire $1.1 billion tax package that Nevada lawmakers passed this spring.
Anti-tax activist Chuck Muth said Monday that he filed paperwork with the Secretary of State's Office on Monday seeking the ballot measure.
Muth said he expects the measure to run up against legal challenges because it seeks to undo a three-part law. Ballot measures are limited to a single subject.
His effort is separate from a pending proposal involving Nevada Controller Ron Knecht. That seeks to repeal just one part of the three-pronged package.
Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval ushered the tax package through the Republican-dominated Legislature, saying the funds were needed to modernize Nevada's dismally ranked education system.
Opponents say Republicans went against conservative principals in approving the deal.
